Description
The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, still preserves many traditional methods in its production process today. For example, the barley is still grown on-site, and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor – a rarity in the modern whisky industry. In addition, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers who are responsible for maintaining and repairing the casks to ensure optimal quality throughout the maturation process.
The Balvenie has expanded its renowned Cask Finishes Range with a remarkable new addition: The Balvenie 12 Year Old Golden Cask, a tropical-inspired single malt shaped by the influences of two different climates.
The maturation process of this whisky begins with 12 years of aging in traditional ex-bourbon casks, which impart the typical Balvenie notes of warm honey and gentle vanilla. The whisky then undergoes a refinement in special rum casks developed by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie at The Balvenie's Speyside distillery.
This unique process combines the mild warmth and tropical aromas of Caribbean rums with the precision of Scotland's slower maturation process. As Kelsey McKechnie explains: "The carefully selected rum blend has created casks that are perfectly prepared to further refine our 12-year-old whisky. The resulting whisky is a harmonious blend of tropical freshness and characteristic depth."
