Gut Gesellmann, documented since 1719, is a pioneer in Burgenland winemaking. Under the leadership of Engelbert Gesellmann, international grape varieties were introduced and aged in French barriques in the 1980s, leading to iconic wines such as Opus Eximium and Bela Rex. With 50 hectares, the winery is dedicated to supplying discerning wine lovers worldwide, focusing on organic quality and manual labor in harmony with nature. Only the best grape material is processed, including grapes from ninety-year-old vines that contribute to the wines' flavor structure. Vinification takes place using state-of-the-art cellar technology, with knowledge passed down through generations playing an important role.

The harvest of the 2021 vintage began exceptionally late. It kicked off on September 23rd with the hand harvest of Sauvignon Blanc, followed by Chardonnay and the "Hochberc Weiss" (field blend). Among the red wine varieties, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, and Zweigelt started first, before Blaufränkisch, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon were picked in mid-October. The harvest concluded on October 26th with the Blaufränkisch Hochberc.

In autumn, the grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. A first selection takes place in the vineyard, before they are checked and sorted again in the cellar using an optical sorting system. This ensures that only perfect grape material reaches the cellar. After careful selection, temperature-controlled mash fermentation follows, succeeded by aging in French oak barrels, which lends the wine additional structure, depth, and fine roasted aromas. Subsequently, the wine is bottled and sealed with a natural cork.
