DAS PHANTOM 2023 is the legendary signature wine from K+K Kirnbauer in Central Burgenland – a red wine with cult status that has been one of Austria’s most influential cuvées for decades. The 2023 vintage consists of a finely balanced blend of 44 % Blaufränkisch, 23 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 9 % Cabernet Franc and 4 % Syrah. The vines are rooted in heavy loam and sandy loam soils, which lend the wine its depth, power and spice.

Following temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the young wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barriques, followed by 18 months’ ageing in 225-litre French oak barriques. This phase imparts the wine with its refined tannin structure, subtle toasted notes and a complex bouquet with depth. The wine was bottled in March 2024 and is ready to drink now, though it has ageing potential until at least 2041, during which time it will continue to gain in finesse and expression.
