The Netzl Carnuntum Pinot Blanc Ried Altenberg 2022 is an elegant and terroir-driven Austrian white wine that impressively reflects the unique character of the Ried Altenberg in Göttelsbrunn (Carnuntum). The site is characterized by Danube gravel with loess in the subsoil and is located on a cooler gravel hill with an east-facing aspect and the defining influence of the nearby forest. The warm Pannonian climate with hot summer days, long late summers, and mild autumns ensures fully ripe grapes, while the location on the Altenberg simultaneously preserves freshness, vibrant acidity, and a distinctive aromatic profile.


The grapes were selectively harvested by hand on September 28, 2023, with precise whole cluster and single berry selection. Subsequently, the wine was aged without intervention in used 500-liter oak barrels and in amphorae, where it matured on its full lees for 6 months – without racking and only stabilized with the first sulfur addition. This elaborate winemaking process gives the wine a fine structure, a creamy texture, and a special depth. With an alcohol content of 13.5% Vol., it is a long-lived wine with aging potential until at least 2033.
