The Ron Matusalem brand originated in Santiago de Cuba, where it was founded in 1872 by the brothers Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, together with their partner Evaristo Álvarez. The name "Matusalem" comes from the biblical figure Methuselah, who is said to have lived to be 969 years old, symbolizing the long aging process and quality of the rum. Over the years, Ron Matusalem faced various challenges, including changes in ownership and production sites due to political and economic factors. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the brand changed hands, and production was moved to the Dominican Republic, where it continues to flourish.
