Description
Xoriguer Mahón Gin is a gin speciality steeped in tradition from the Balearic island of Menorca and closely linked to the port city of Mahón. Its history dates back to the period of British presence on Menorca in the 18th century, when demand for gin from British sailors influenced local production. The gin is produced by Destilerías Xoriguer, a family-run business that continues the Menorcan gin tradition to this day. One feature that sets it apart from many classic gins is the alcohol base used: Xoriguer utilises alcohol of agricultural origin derived from grapes. This is distilled together with selected juniper berries and other botanicals. The characteristic juniper flavour is clearly the focal point, emphasising the traditional Mediterranean style of this protected speciality.
Xoriguer Mahón Gin is bottled at 38 per cent in a 0.7-litre bottle and bears the Protected Geographical Indication ‘Gin de Mahón’ or ‘Gin de Menorca’. The distinctive bottle, with its traditional appearance, also reflects the brand’s long history and its close connection to Menorca. Xoriguer thus stands out clearly from numerous modern interpretations of gin, both through its origin and its wine-based spirit. In Menorca in particular, the gin holds a firm place in the regional drinking culture and forms, amongst other things, the basis for the well-known Pomada. The combination of historical production traditions, Mediterranean origins and protected geographical identity makes Xoriguer a unique representative within the international world of gin.
