Matthew Gloag, the founder's grandson of the same name, took over the family business 96 years after its founding in 1800. A year later, he created a new blend, which he named "The Grouse Brand" (Grouse = moorhen) with the expectation that many hunters would stop in Perth during the hunting season. His daughter designed the matching label with the Scottish national bird. The whisky sold so well immediately that within just a few years, "The Famous" was added to the name, and the designation "Brand" was simply omitted. And so the popular whisky is still called today: The Famous Grouse.

This Famous Grouse is created from a selection of Speyside Malts and Grains. The maturation and finish take place in sherry casks.

The label shows the Spanish female capercaillie.
