The Gesellmann Opus Eximium No. 35 2022 is a masterful Austrian red wine cuvée from Burgenland, bearing the signature of the traditional Gesellmann winery. For over three decades, the "Opus Eximium" has been re-composed year after year, with each edition reflecting the characteristics of the vintage. The 2022 cuvée consists of 60% Blaufränkisch, 30% Zweigelt, and 10% St. Laurent – three grape varieties typical of the Carnuntum region and Burgenland, vinified here at the highest level.


The grapes come from 30 to 70-year-old vines, deeply rooted in mineral-rich soils, developing their characteristic intensity. Hand-picking began at the end of September with St. Laurent, followed by Zweigelt, and concluded at the beginning of October with Blaufränkisch. Each grape variety was vinified separately. After spontaneous fermentation and traditional mash fermentation in steel tanks, malolactic fermentation took place in oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine matured for 24 months in small oak barrels before being blended as a cuvée and further aged for 2 months in large wooden barrels. It will finally be bottled in June 2025. With 14.5% vol., it presents itself as powerful, complex, and elegant – a wine with great aging potential.
